Briefest of reports:
Race hard both days. Horrible start both days. Different finishes both days.
Day one it was 38-40°F and raining and windy. Cold and ideal conditions for cross. The course was tough and demanding. But that back tire was HOOKING UP. Still when I passed the finish line and saw 3 to go? Oh man that was it. Carl Ring was just up ahead and poof - i was in no man's land between Carl and G-ride. No chance for G-ride to catch me, but i didn't have the Fiah-Powah to close the gap on the little roadie jockey. Finished pretty well even for feeling like dog poop the last couple laps.
Day two? Colder. Couldn't have been much more than 35°F and WINDY. I even put a sleeveless baselayer on AND knee warmers. Still went bare handed (hands were fine) and unzipped part way through, but it was a great day. Jumping from group to group, riding through groups and all the way up to and through Carl. A great finish. I saw 2 to go and I Carl pretty much at the same time and thought: "only two? OH YEAH!" And I nuked it and it was just AWESOME.
Raised the bars up to the top of the fork, and i'm cornering much better. Power is there and that second day is still working for me. One of these days I'll have to figure out how to get faster on Day 1. Maybe my extended hard opener on Friday helped a little, but not quite enough.
Oh and Jack Chapman got a few pictures of me. One of them he caught me unaware while i was changing back at the truck.
I've got some more pictures to post I think. Nothing as NSFW as the one above fortunately.
Flying out to the west coast tomorrow. Going to see my folks for a day and then head to PDX to pick up G-ride and drive down to BEND! I'm racing the Single Speed race on friday and then the 35-39 race on Saturday. Finishing off my season with a bit of fun in the Clydesdale race Saturday night! Then the Planet Bike gang will be cheering on Jonathan Page.
Can't wait. And I'll even get to catch the Bellevue concert on Monday night before flying back home.
So much to do. No time for words.
