Hockey time...

Saturday night the best playoffs of the year start. Stupid VS broadcast. Maybe they can put that bike race on there instead and move the hockey over to NBC... That's be original. I haven't paid attention to the giro more than the barrage of photos of winners crossing the line with both hands off the bars. Good thing they don't crash /sarcasm... The race could be over, but if not, those cycling fans who want to watch 3 hours of Giro footage probably won't be too disappointed. eh? After the Italian TV took their feed offline, or just reserved it for those in Italy, i've kinda lost interest.

Back on the hockey thing. No team based in C eh N eh D eh is in the playoffs but hey, who cares. IT IS DETROIT AND de PENGUINS. But we can still tell more canadian jokes, eh?

Q: How do you keep bacon from curling in the pan?
A: Take away their little brooms.

Oh and I was struck by the oxymoron that is my line up of bikes. I've got a handful of Kleins. And a Giant.

Giant and Kleins.

Klein. German = small.

Giant Klein

okay - maybe it is funnier in my little world.

More serious matters. Doping headlining at ESPN. Good stuff. How many lines in there open the door so wide that the skeletons in LA's closet can't be all but hanging out in the open.
Right now the best assurance an athlete can offer is that he or she hasn't failed a drug test. That was Marion Jones' defense. She'd said she was one of the world's most-tested athletes, but now she sits in prison, in part, for lying about her extensive drug use.

Heck if you can keep reading long enough there is even good stuff about the UCI.

And wicked bonus points for using the word Nincompoops!

It is a long article but damn it is a good one. Gives ya HOPE for sport!

...ya, w/ out an evening update on the box & only w/ the on-line stuff, it's hard to stay more than marginally enthused...personally, i think it's a shame cuz the giro has more of a "family" feel to it than that little french event...

...& we canucks, ex-pats or not are pretty thick skinned about our game...something that good that's appreciated by relatively so few, hey it's like the cyclo-cross of major sports...

...i HOPE it's a great series...i HOPE it goes seven games...i HOPE at least three games go into overtime & i THINK detroit has just been playing too good of a 'team' game this whole season to get beat in the end...

...& LA ???...i took my yellow band off for a long time because of the controversy...but on the day i saw LA had posted on eldon's 'fat cyclist' site, w/ a great smile & sign for susan, well, couldn't help myself...i started wearing the 'livestrong' band again...

I am having a hard time with Giro myself this year, but I just want to mention that “Goose” is posting EuroSport TV coverage of ’08 Giro (with English commentary) on alt.binary.multimedia.sports newsgroup. First eleven stages available so far, each stage is about 1hr to 1 1/2 hr.

Other TV sources (e.g. RAI) are listed on Steve Hill’s page
