zat is how i'm feeling now
I had traction on a few things I wanted to write, one was chain lube. What would I reccomend to buy if someone asked me. The first choice Slick Willy Slick n Dry ain't made no more so I can't reccomend that. ProLink Gold sounds pretty much the same from hearing Zinn report about it. But then he likes everything anyone gives him, or most stuff at least that is more expensive than the competition. That white lightning epic stuff sounds pretty solid. But again, never tried it. EVerLube is the obvious choice, but practical for everyone? I dunno. Maybe not. But. I keep coming back to the best lube being the one you put on often. The stuff that is tenacious enough to stick for weeks or months on end does one thing well collect stuff, and not the good stuff. If you are going to apply stuff regularly it might as well be a thinned down wet lube (motor oil). Put it on. Wipe it off. NO way is it possible to wipe the lube out of the wear surfaces but it is possible to wipe it clean enough to be considered almost clean. Sure it might not last for weeks, but a weekly application or after a wet ride isn't a huge price to pay for a quiet well lubed chain. Use baby wipes or paper towels or old holey undergarments.
I was going to take time to lay out the facts the options and the solutions the pros and cons and how to-s for all the lubes and stuff based on my experience, even as limited as it is. I haven't been working on bikes for that long. UBI was in '90, then there were a few summers strung in a row of full time shop rat then the years of being a team mechanic in college and then the years working part time in michigan. All I know is that i haven't tried everything, but I have tried alot. The smell of Finish Line Cross Country lube always makes me smile. That cannondale coda waxy lube stuff i thought was pretty darn good. Smelled funky too. Tried T-9 for a while, didn't like how it built up on everything except the chain and didn't stick for more than one wet ride. But there. Well, is there a perfect bike lube out there? Dunno. But at the rate these component makers are going (thinner and thinner) the chains will wear out long before the factory cosmoline stuff gives out.
Another thing was Pizza. Was gonna give the break down of a GeWilli pizza. One that made my 'catered' pizza parties a big hit there. But then I before I could do it EV posted basically the same thing with his version. And that derailed my motivation for the moment. Sitting waiting for phone calls while i'm falling asleep ain't the best time to write (right now). Thoughts not so coherent. (go ahead G-ride, affirm that I never make any sense at all). I'm actually noticing my glands are swelling and the back of my throat feeling kinda not so fresh. Coupled with being wicked tired. Man I tell ya. This afternoon is dragging. Wiggly buggers are gonna be in 75% ETOH soon. Then once they get through the critical point dryer they can get in line for time on the scope (after i do a bunch of other stuff). The canceling of teh Sterling Sizzler was a major disappointment in a way. But the Root 66 race looks reasonably promising.

So there... can't even come up with a good flourish to finish on...

I do want to get that pizza rendition done. Might follow ev's format. Good thing with pizza is that there is more than one way to make a good one. different styles, different influences. There's a pretty good difference between the two. Maybe this weekend or sometime I'll get it done. Maybe. Or maybe it will be like my intention to keep riding the cyclocross bike on the trails and running regularly, and just fall to the wayside. Yes, I am my own kryptonite. Good intentions. Intentions that might make me faster or help me stay at a higher fitness level. But well. Life gets in the way and before I know it - poof 3 months later... WTF...

My spies told me you were planning a pizza writeup, so I quickly put something together to scoop you in the cycling/cyclocross emphasis blogosphere. It's a pretty cut-throat segment. I would do the same for the lube article, but I just don't care. I think the whole industry is silly. EVerlube all the way!
that fu manchu is sweet.
Personally I like the Pedros Dry lube, the Slick Willy's Slick n' Dry stuff (which I still have some of) always made a total mess outta my bike, collects dirt like nothing.
i think you and Skinny should boath roack the fumanchu all year.
if you boath did it, then maybe people at the cross races would think YOU and skinny were gay lovers and leave me the eff out of it.
The Slick Willy's stuff when put on following the instructions exactly has kept the cross bike cleaner than ANY other lube I've tried, AND it keeps it well lubed.
Just gotta apply it properly...
G-Ride - you gotta convince Skinny's boss that it is cool and my wife not to remove it in the middle of the night...
Oh and if Skinny and I were to sport the Fu, well then they'd think we were some weird gay triangle or something... We'll just call G-Ride the 'Gimp'
